Brick of Mormon Stories is the book that started a habit of nightly scripture study for our family. As parents of two active young sons, my husband and I had tried numerous children's story books to introduce scripture study. While these books were entertaining and simple to understand, they seemed best suited for sacrament meeting quiet books. I was excited to introduce Brick of Mormon Stories to my sons because beneath each chapter synopsis is the actual scripture text. This is exactly what I wanted and I knew this would be a perfect fit.
I waited until our family was on vacation and free from the distractions of home to start reading Brick of Mormon Stories. I made sure that we read through at least one chapter each night. I was surprised when they often asked for "just one more page".
At first, it was about the pictures. Then, they became involved in the stories. Part of the appeal was that we read as a family--no exceptions to this rule.
We continued to read nightly when we returned home from our vacation. I was nervous as we reached the end of the book because I feared the transition to the "regular" scriptures would be disappointing without the pictures. This has not been the case. We are now in our fourth month of consistent nightly scripture study and I am so happy that we had Brick of Mormon Stories to use as a foundation for this habit! Once engaged, our sons became lost in the amazing stories of the scriptures. The pictures in this book intrigued their imaginations and presented the scriptures on a very personal level to them without watering them down or simplifying their language. I have yet to see this in any other book. I can without hesitation recommend this book to any family of young children--especially those wishing to start a habit of consistent scripture study.
